President Trump’s approval rating slipped to its lowest point during his second White House term amid his handling of the economy and the recent Houthi Signal chat leak, according to a survey published Wednesday.

The new Reuters/Ipsos poll found that the president’s approval rating was 43 percent, representing a 2-point drop since the late March iteration of the survey. After Trump took office on Jan. 20, his approval rating stood at 47 percent.

In the latest poll, 37 percent of respondents approved of Trump’s handling of the economy and 30 percent approved of his approach to addressing the high cost of living in the country.

President Donald Trump shook up his national security team on Thursday by firing senior officials on the National Security Council after a visit with far-right activist Laura Loomer, who indicated that she presented him with research on administration officials she suspects of insufficient loyalty to his agenda.

Although it was not immediately clear why the officials were fired, Loomer visited the White House on Wednesday.

At least four senior officials were fired afterward, including three with ties to Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

They were David Feith, who oversaw technology and national security and worked at the State Department in Trump's first administration, Brian Walsh, a former aide to Rubio in his U.S. Senate office who oversaw intelligence matters, and Thomas Boodry, who handled legislative affairs for former Rep. Michael Waltz, Trump's current national security adviser. Boodry also worked for Rubio in his Florida Senate office.

A federal judge on Friday blocked U.S. President Donald Trump's administration from deporting migrants to countries with which they had no existing relationship without giving them a chance to raise claims that they would face persecution or torture if sent there.

U.S. District Judge Brian Murphy in Boston issued a nationwide temporary restraining order designed to protect migrants subject to final orders of removal from being swiftly deported to countries other than those that had already been identified during immigration proceedings.

His decision came in a lawsuit filed on Sunday by a group of migrants represented by immigrant rights advocates challenging a policy U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement recently adopted that is aimed at fast-tracking the deportations of thousands of migrants who had been previously released from detention.

The Pentagon restored some webpages highlighting the crucial wartime contributions of Navajo Code Talkers and other Native American veterans on Wednesday, days after tribes condemned the action.

The initial removal was part of a sweep of any military content that promoted diversity, equity and inclusion, or commonly referred to as DEI. Following President Donald Trump’s broader executive order ending the federal government’s DEI programs, the Defense Department deleted thousands of pages honoring contributions by women and minority groups. Department officials say the Navajo Code Talker material was erroneously erased.

“In the rare cases that content is removed — either deliberately or by mistake — that is out of the clearly outlined scope of the directive, we instruct the components and they correct the content so it recognizes our heroes for their dedicated service alongside their fellow Americans, period,” Pentagon press secretary John Ullyot said in a statement.

Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore said Thursday that it is laying off more than 2,200 people as a result of President Donald Trump's deep budget cuts, with another 100 furloughed on reduced schedules. It's the largest layoff in the university's history. Johns Hopkins was the largest university recipient of federal research funding, and is the largest employer in the state of Maryland.

“This is a difficult day for our entire community," a university spokesperson told USA TODAY. Affected workers will receive at least 60 days notice before the cuts take effect, the spokesperson said. Many of the jobs are in other countries, since the university specializes in USAID-funded research projects, which Trump has slashed.

The historic layoffs come as other universities are cutting spending, freezing hiring and in some cases rescinding admissions acceptance for graduate students as they face budget cuts from Trump and Congress.
