UN Confirms and Defends Deletion of Ban Statements from Transcripts, What Else Gets Erased?

At the UN statements, like web sites, can be made to disappear. While the range of web sites blocked inside the UN, which Inner City Pres first reported on earlier this month, includes watchdog sites like GlobalCompactCritics.net, on Monday UN Spokesperson Michele Montas defended the omission from the UN's online transcript of Ban Ki-moon's April 16 Q&A session with the press of an answer he gave about Iran.

Kadhafi warns US allies could suffer Saddam's fate

"A foreign force occupied an Arab country and hanged its president and we stood by and watched," he told an Arab summit in the Syrian capital.

Saddam was hanged in December 2006 after being sentenced to death for crimes against humanity over the mass killing of Shiites in the 1980s.

"How can they execute a prisoner of war and the president of a member of the Arab League?" Kadhafi asked.

He said Saddam had been a friend of the United States during the Iran-Iraq war in the 1980s "before they turned against him and executed him."

"You could all suffer the same fate," he warned.

Ecuador president tells Bush to send troops or 'shut your mouth'

Bush Spending U.S. Tax Dollars to Foment Unrest in Bolivia

Documents show that Washington is backing Right-wing opposition to Bolivia's democratic reforms.

Much of that money is going through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). In July 2002, a declassified message from the U.S. embassy in Bolivia to Washington included the following message: "A planned USAID political party reform project aims at implementing an existing Bolivian law that would . . . over the long run, help build moderate, pro-democracy political parties that can serve as a counterweight to the radical MAS or its successors." MAS refers to Morales's party, which, in English, stands for Movement Toward Socialism.

Iraq: teachers told to rewrite history

In the "Teacher Notes" section, it talks about how the "invasion was necessary to allow the opportunity to remove Saddam Hussein" but it fails to mention the lack of United Nations backing for the war. The notes also use the American spelling of "program".

UK top cop who led CIA probe found dead

A city police chief who led an investigation into charges that Britain cooperated with secret CIA flights to transport terrorism suspects without formal proceedings has been found dead, his deputy said Tuesday.

Manchester Chief Constable Michael Todd, 50, was found dead in Snowdonia, about 240 miles northwest of London, Deputy Chief Constable Dave Whatton said. He had been missing since going out for a walk Monday during his day off.
