Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam and his wife test positive for COVID-19

Gov of Virginia and wife test positive for Covid

Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam (D) and his wife have both tested positive for COVID-19.

Northam's office announced on Friday that he and Virginia first lady Pamela Northam had tested positive for the coronavirus after a member of the governor's residence staff "who works closely within the couple's living quarters" previously tested positive. The governor has no symptoms, and his wife is "currently experiencing mild symptoms," the statement said.

"As I've been reminding Virginians throughout this crisis, COVID-19 is very real and very contagious," Northam said. "...We are grateful for your thoughts and support, but the best thing you can do for us — and most importantly, for your fellow Virginians — is to take this seriously."

Authorities are investigating a package sent – but not delivered – to President Trump that contained the poison ricin

Ricin in letter intercepted by USPS

A package addressed to President Donald Trump that tested positive for the poison ricin was intercepted by federal authorities in the past week, a law enforcement official said Saturday.

The official said the FBI, Secret Service and U.S. Postal Service inspectors are investigating the source of the package. Mail addressed to the White House is screened at an off-site location.

Ricin, a poison drawn from the husks of castor beans, has surfaced in other plots targeting Trump and other officials.

In 2018, a federal grand jury returned a seven-count indictment against a Utah man, alleging that he threatened Trump and other administration officials in letters, some of which contained the natural ingredients used to make ricin.

Appeals court lifts order reining in feds in Portland

Appeals court lifts ban on federal troops in Portland

A divided federal appeals court has lifted a judge’s order preventing federal law enforcement agents in Portland, Ore., from forcing journalists and legal observers from the scene of almost-nightly clashes between authorities and protesters.

The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals issued an order Thursday night temporarily granting the Justice Department’s request to lift a preliminary injunction U.S. District Court Judge Michael Simon imposed last week extending restrictions he placed on federal agents last month.

The panel split, 2-1. Two judges appointed by President Donald Trump, Eric Miller and Daniel Bress, provided the votes to stay the order issued by Simon, a Barack Obama appointee. The dissenting court of appeals judge was Margaret McKeown, a Bill Clinton appointee.

The Republican governor said he is isolating from his family and working from home. He resisted calls to roll back Oklahoma’s reopening plans, which are being tested by a viral resurgence.

TVNL Comment: Hey, Governor Stitt:  Did you have fun at the Trump rally without masks or social distancing?  We surely hope it was worth getting the virus.  Idiotic behavior warrants idiotic consequesnces.

Ed Koch, mayor who became a symbol of NYC, dies at 88

Ed Koch dies at 88Ed Koch's favorite moment as mayor of New York City, fittingly, involved yelling.

Suddenly inspired to do something brash about a bitter mass transit strike that crippled the city in 1980, he strode down to the Brooklyn Bridge not far from his City Hall office to encourage commuters who were forced to walk to work instead of jumping aboard subway trains and buses.
