"...tiny sparks of dubious information picked up in the backstreets of Baghdad and elsewhere were fanned into giant flames"

Alarm bells rang in his head. It was September 2002, and Prime Minister Tony Blair had that day unveiled with great fanfare the government’s dossier detailing Saddam Hussein’s arsenal of weapons of mass destruction, as a justification for going to war.

He knew, in a way the public did not, the precise background to that headline. His first thought was that this was not what the original intelligence report had said. ‘If this goes wrong, we’re all screwed,’ he muttered to himself.

It did go wrong, spectacularly so, as a new history of MI6 by the BBC’s well-informed security correspondent Gordon Corera recounts. Yet disastrous consequences flowed from its false and exaggerated claims. They were cited as a pretext for the conquest of Iraq, which led to tens of thousands of deaths.

TVNL Comment: Why are the members of the US military not fuming over this? Why are their families not fuming over this? We knew this years ago. We reported it years ago. We are hated by many members of the military and their families...yet we are the ones who tell the truth, and that truth is that the invasion of Iraq was a sham. It was not meant to protect us. The men and women who fought there are NOT heroes. They did nothing for American citizens by killing Iraqis. All they did was take the Iraqi oil, which was used in part for paying for full education (through college), for the men and women of Iraq, and used for providing FREE HEALTH CARE FOR THE IRAQI PEOPLE, and giving that oil to western oil companies. That is all they did. They are not heroes and they should be angry as hell at the people who lied them into war, starting with Colin Powell, FOX News and the entire body of the establishment media!
