Benny GantzA top Israeli Cabinet minister and longtime rival of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu arrived in Washington on Monday for controversial meetings with Vice President Kamala Harris and other top U.S. officials.

Benny Gantz, a centrist who joined Netanyahu’s hard-line government following Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack, comes amid deep disagreements between Netanyahu and President Joe Biden over the Israeli military's conduct in Gaza and a postwar vision for the enclave. Netanyahu instructed the Israeli Embassy in the U.S. to withhold assistance in arranging the meetings, Israel Hayom reported.

Israeli lawmaker and Netanyahu supporter David Amsalem was among those attacking Gantz on social media, accusing him of being a "Trojan horse" who joined the Netanyahu's government to undermine it.
